Once the admiration capital of Myanmar, Yangon was founded by King Alaungpaya in the 18th century. Although the capital has moved to Naypyidaw, Yangon remains the top commercial hub of the country with the International airport and seaport as its main entry.

The national pride of Yangon is the Shwedagon Pagoda, said to be one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in Asia. Besides many pagodas to see, the National Museum and Bogyoke market also enable visitors to come closer to embracing the Myanmar arts and crafts and culture.

The city has many colonial-era buildings to explore. The best way to discover them in the downtown area is on foot. If you prefer to see the day-to-day lives of the city´s inhabitants on the move, the 46 Km long Yangon circular railway offers travelers the chance to participate in.

Parks and Lakes

Yangon is a city with a significant number of parks and gardens. The Maha Bandula Park is located exactly in the city Centre where people come and relax. The Kandawgyi Lake and Garden offers a magnificent view across the water towards the Great Shwedagon Pagoda. Nearby is the Yangon Zoological garden with a collection of nearly 200 species of animals. The Hlawga National park is a nature reserve covering 1540 acres of land. Hlawga Lake in this park is a home for over 70 kinds of herbivorous animals and 90 species of birds. It is a good place for nature lovers, picnicker, and birdwatchers. The National race village is Located in a lush park near Yangon-Thanlyin bridge 1. Visitors can walk around the traditional houses of the country’s eight major ethnic groups.

The trip to Myanmar will not be complete without a visit to the country’s beloved landmark, Shwedagon Pagoda. This highest and oldest pagoda could be seen from lots of Yangon’s vantage points.

In addition to this, Yangon is a home for many sacred places each with its special appeals such as Sule pagoda, Chauk Htet Gyi reclining Buddha, Kaber Aye pagoda and Botahtaung Pagoda.

Heritage buildings
Downtown Yangon is considered to have the highest density of colonial-era buildings in South East Asia. The Yangon city heritage list consists of nearly 200 edifices including religious structures, ancient pagoda and British colonial buildings. A Numbers of walking tours exist to visit some of the key heritage sites at downtown Yangon.


There are many markets worth visiting but the most popular one in Yangon is Bogyoke Market with more than 2000 shops and a big selection of handicrafts, souvenirs, clothes, gems, jewelry.


Dala is a small town located to the South of the Yangon River. Unlike sightseeing places in Yangon, a short trip to Dala town definitely offer you a taste of Myanmar rural life. Hop on a local ferry ride from Pansodan Pier located at the end of Pansodan road to get Dala and grab Tuk-tuk or trishaw to go and see around

After driving 45 minutes to the Southwest of Dala., you will get to Twante. It is worth visiting Shwesandaw pagoda while you are there and then observing the craftsmen who are making earthenware in a very traditional way.

Located across the Bago River from Yangon, it is a major seaport city of Myanmar. The main tourist attraction there are Kyaik Khauk pagoda, Padagyi pagoda, and Ye la Paya, built on a small island in the middle of the river.

Bago is a busy commercial city. It was once the ancient capital of the second Myanmar Empire founded by King Bayinnaung. Among the old religious monuments in this area, Shwethar Lyaung Pagoda, Shwemawdaw and Kyaik Pun are its most visited places.
